Cell phones with cameras are everywhere nowadays. It really makes us thinking whether we now have a mobile phone with camera or a camera with telephone capability.

What’s up with mobiles?
The Sharp 903 cell phone now comes with a 3.2MP camera, the Sony Ericsson W800i and the N90 from Nokia Nseries both pitch in with 2.0MP (N90 has also got a Carl Zeiss lens and the autofocus). These phones have good enough quality for everyday pictures. And given the pace of development it is likely that the standard will only raise. Who would have thought that we would be talking of the music capabilities of the iPod phone, or anticipating the launch of the N91 from the Nokia Nseries with a 4 GB hard disc?

Why camera cell phone?
There are digital cameras capable of 10MP or more resolution, but who really needs pictures with such resolution? 2MP is enough for day to day usage and general printing purpose, and it ensures that images are not too large to be transferred to other devices. The picture quality of N90 from Nokia Nseries can match that of some lower end digital cameras. Cell phones can have files transferred the same way as digital cameras (cable, memory card and Bluetooth). The inclusion of MMS function in camera phones means that the images can also be directly sent to other phones and emails, which is not achievable with digital cameras. The major advantage of the camera cell phone over the digital camera is its immediate availability, the ability to capture that fleeting image without having to unzip a camera bag and fumble with settings. So you will not miss that precious moment again.

Professionals are up for the challenge
Five of the world’s leading photographers (Juergen Teller, Jiancheng Dong, Nick Waplington, Philip Lorca-DiCorcia and Raghu Rai) have taken up the challenge of camera cell phones. They have produced a stunning selection of professional images using the N90 from Nokia Nseries, see it yourself at seenew.com

Are you up for the challenge?
If you think you’re pretty good with a camera, take a look at the competition that can also be found on the site. Submit your shots taken with camera phone, and you could be assisting one of the photographers on a commercial photo shoot. Other prizes include the N90 from Nokia Nseries, two return tickets to be flown anywhere in the world and your winning images to be pre-loaded to future Nokia Nseries handsets.

Fast transfer speed of the SD Secure Digital memory card

Fast transfer speed of the SD Secure Digital memory card

From 1990-2000, many new formats of the memory cards were introduced like the memory stick, MMC (Multi-Media Card), SD (secure digital) card, and similar types of other memory cards. The compact cards were big in size. Therefore, there was need of smaller size memory cards for PDAs, cell phones and digital cameras.

The memory cards are of many types and are used for many purposes. The SD memory cards are mostly used in cell phones, digital cameras and game consoles. In 1990s the PC card was among the 1st commercial “memory card”. Now the PC cards are used for modems as connection standard and for industrial applications. During that time period, other types of memory cards were introduced that were smaller in size than PC cards. These memory cards were Smart Media, miniature card and the Compact Flash cards.

In 2001, the CF (Compact Flash) and SM (Smart Media) cards were very popular for use in digital cameras. By the year 2005, the MMC and SD cards became more successful and they took over SM (Smart Media) cards. Nowadays, the modern personal computer systems have buit-in slots for the use of memory cards. The SD (Secure Digital) memory cards are lighter and smaller in size than the compact flash (CF) cards. The SD cards have interface of nine pin and data transfer bus of 4-bit. Initially the CF cards were cheaper than the SD cards, but that is not true nowadays. SD Secure digital are all solid state memory cards. There is also advanced form of the SD card called the SD High Capacity SDHC. The capacity of the SDHC cards reaches up to 32GB.

The SD cards were developed to avoid the illegal copying of music and for the “digital right scheme”. Secure Digital cards have the encryption hardware. The SD cards and the MMC are very much similar but the MMC does not have the “encryption hardware” along with some technical differences.

Sandisk introduced series of “extreme-IV” in the mid of 2006. These SD cards offer transfer speed of 40MB/second, double from the Sandisk “extreme-III” SD cards. The Sandisk extreme-IV has the similar architecture design and wide range like that of Sandisk “extreme-III” series. Lexar launched the “ultra direct memory access UDMA” cards in February 2007. These cards had the data capacities of 2 GB to 8 GB. The UDMA cards from Lexar have improved performance of about 125% as compared to the previous version Lexar 133x CF product line. The native writing speed of the extreme-III series is 20 MB/second.

The speed of extreme cards and the Sandisk ultra-II memory cards is the same. When the data is transferred to personal computer through optimized “card reader”, that is where the cards become the fastest. For instance, extreme-IV cards from Sandisk when connected to fast PC can deliver up to 40MB/second of transfer speed through the Sandisk card reader Firewire 800. But when it is used with card reader of generic USB 2.0, then the transfer speed lowers down to 7MB/second.

Therefore, if the user wants to get the ultimate speed and performance of the secure digital SD card, then he has to careful with the card reader he is using. The fast speed memory card will not be cost effective when the transfer speed from memory card to the personal computer is not important to the user. The user can download the fast speed 2 GB memory card to fast personal computer system with in less than a minute by using the “Firewire-800” memory card reader. On the other hand, slower USB 2.0 and memory card can take up to six minutes.

Dell could be working on an Android netbook is what is heard from sources in the pc industry.

Bsquare, which makes software for smartphones and other mobile devices, which is used to run video and other multimedia in Web applications, onto Dell's Android netbooks.Well, there are no signs of when the mini-laptops would be launched.

Dell working on a netbook that would run the OS would not be a surprise, given that it already sells PCs running Linux, another open source OS, and other vendors, including rival Hewlett-Packard, are testing Android.

Dell shipping an Android netbook would give a significant boost to the OS and could encourage other computer makers to follow. The company is the world's second-largest PC maker behind HP.

Dell makes netbooks today running Windows XP or Linux under the Inspiron Mini brand. Netbooks have been the only growing segment of the PC market during the economic recession. The mini-laptops, introduced in 2007, have screens 10 inches or less, are optimized for Web surfing and other basic tasks, and cost as little as $300. Global shipments this year are expected to rise by 68.5% from 2008, according to iSuppli.

During the economic downturn, much of the growth of netbooks has come at the expense of contemporary PC categories, particularly desktops. ISuppli predicts shipments of PCs will drop by 9.5% this year, compared with 2008.

Understanding Antivirus and Antispyware

Understanding Antivirus and Antispyware

Antivirus Software is a computer program designed to eliminate computer viruses and other malware. Nowadays, antivirus scan programs have the ability to neutralize all kinds of threats including worms, Trojan horses, etc and serve as a catalyst in virus and spyware removal.
Author: Joseph John

Article Tools:

Antivirus software programs that are commonly available in market are Norton, McAfee, and SOPHOS. Among all, Norton continues to be the bestselling antivirus program, and has proved its mettle in detecting viruses.

Likewise, there are super antispyware software programs. They are used solely for detection and removal of spyware. These software programs follow different techniques to complete their task. They either scan files to identify known viruses matching definitions in their virus dictionary or track suspicious behavior shown by files and programs stored in computer. For examples: A program trying to write data to an executable program can create doubt. However, such a diagnosis generally covers data captures, port monitoring, and other tricks.

Always install such an anti-spyware program that works effectively with your operating system. Its main advantage lies in its efficiency to provide high quality protection against complex spyware attacks. Most of these programs offer complete security by scanning not only e-mails, but also all traffic generating from diskettes, USB sticks, and Internet.

There are specific antivirus programs that the user can easily install. Also, they are available for free on the Internet. But it is always recommended to buy a software package as it will have additional features for an efficient PC protection.

Some antispyware software can reduce your PC’s performance to a large extent. You may disable the antivirus protection to avert performance loss but it will increase the risk of infection. If you are unsure of which Antispyware program to buy, you can consult with technicians offering computer support online. Apart from providing the best advice, they can install the most suitable Antispyware in no time.

Many companies offer services like installation and timely up gradation of antivirus software program, troubleshooting PC errors, email support services, support for all operating systems, and other related benefits as a part of their computer support package.

BlackBerry Bold or iPhone 3G: Which fits your corporate attire?

BlackBerry Bold or iPhone 3G: Which fits your corporate attire?

There are various Smartphones available in the market. But for a corporate user, the first Smartphone that comes to mind is either BlackBerry or Apple’s iPhone, both of which compete very well in every sphere and features. Here we discuss features of iPhone 3G and BlackBerry 9000 Bold.
Author: Amarpreet97

Smartphones are the best gadget for any corporate user. However, to select the one, fit for their corporate personality, is hard to choose from the crowd.

The article is a feature by feature comparison between BlackBerry Bold & 3G iPhone that are label as best Smartphone available in the market.

Apple iPhone 3G:

The iPhone is an internet-connected multimedia Smartphone designed and marketed by Apple Inc, which lacks a physical keyboard, but the multi-touch screen renders a virtual keyboard when necessary. It functions as a camera phone, a portable media player and an Internet client. The Apple iPhone 3G is known as the Smartphone that is best in multimedia.

BlackBerry Bold:

The BlackBerry Bold aka 9000, the first 3G BlackBerry, launched in the U.S. in November of 2008, is a mobile phone data device, which is considered as one of the best in BlackBerry series.

Comparison of features:

Microprocessor: BlackBerry has 624MHz Intel PXA270/Marvell Tavor PXA930 processor, up from 312MHz, whereas iPhone has Samsung ARM 1176JZ(F)-S v1.0 620 MHz under-clocked to 412 MHz, 32-bit RISC processor.

Operating System: Bold runs BlackBerry OS 4.6, whereas iPhone 3G has iPhone OS 2.2.1.

WLAN: BlackBerry has 802.11a/b/g plus good GPS, typically a tradeoff with BBs, while iPhone supports Wi-Fi 802.11b/g.

Resolution: BlackBerry has 480 x 320 resolution screen with 65,000 colors, whereas iPhone sports 480×320 px, 3.5 in (89 mm), 3:2 aspect ratio, 262,144-color LCD touch-screen.

SMS/MMS: In the Apple iPhone 3G Smartphone, you can only send SMS. Where-as in the BlackBerry, you can send both SMS and MMS.

Memory: The memory that is installed in the Apple is 16 GB where as in the BlackBerry it is 64MB only. In BlackBerry, MicroSD expansion is available where as in Apple it is absent.

Applications: RIM has made a lot of noise about its BlackBerry App World store, whereas Apple recently celebrated its 1 billionth App Store download.

Screen: The Apple has a touch screen and whatever information you are inputting has to be done through that, where as a BlackBerry comes fully equipped with a QWERTY keypad. In the Apple phone the size of the screen is 3.5 inches where as it is 2.5 inches in the BlackBerry.

Camera: In both devices, the resolution of the digital camera is 2 megapixels.

Speakers: The Apple comes in with speakers that are built in. The BlackBerry also comes with inbuilt speakers, but they also come with a 3.5mm stereo jack.

Battery Life: The life of the battery of the BlackBerry is higher than the Apple phones battery life as there is no touch screen and resolution of screen is less.

Location support: BlackBerry has Gokivo Navigator and iPhone provides Google Maps.

Discussion:

As usual, you cannot get all the features in one gadget, for e.g. in the BlackBerry the features like the alarm clock; calendar, digital zoom is available where as such features are not available in the Apple. Also, you can do cut and paste text between apps in BlackBerry, while iPhone lacks it. One more thing you miss in the iPhone is opening a zipped attachment, which is present in the BlackBerry Bold.

But, the 16GB memory, rotational ability, touch screen, use of accelerometer for motion detection, Safari browser's support, larger screen and easy apps downloads from the application store makes it better Smartphone than any other.

The most important function for a corporate executive is E-mailing. BlackBerry has become the Lotus Notes of the mobile world for providing secure e-mail anywhere on the move.

Also, the iPhone works directly with Exchange, so you can e-mail, e-mail folders, calendars, and contacts all flowed effortlessly among the iPhone, laptop, and server. The configuration was trivial.

It is important to note that BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) supports Novell GroupWise and Lotus Notes, while both of those servers support the iPhone only through Web clients, limiting their integration with other iPhone apps such as Contacts and Calendar. Thus, BlackBerry supports more e-mail systems, even though you have to add a dedicated server to get that support.

In the security front, organizations running BlackBerrys can trust as if a BlackBerry is lost, IT can wipe all of its data and render it useless over the air. Apple also provides more iPhone security capabilities than most people realize, but it still does not have the depth of messaging and device security that the BlackBerry does.

Are you ready to ditch XP for Windows 7?

Are you ready to ditch XP for Windows 7?

If you are an XP user, has what you’ve seen of Windows 7 made you willing to ditch XP?
Author: Amarpreet97

Article Tools:

According to NetApplications, Windows XP is still the OS of choice for users out there in ComputerLand, with some two-thirds of users still making use of the aging OS. By comparison, Vista is struggling to capture a quarter of the market share. Vista’s “WOW!” failed to capture the attention of users, as many chose to stick with their older OS.

The way I see it, Microsoft needs to be putting effort into marketing Windows 7 to those currently using XP. After all, those already using Vista have shown a willingness to switch OSes already, and moving from Vista to 7 isn’t that much of a leap. It’s those entrenched XP users that present a problem for Microsoft. These people, for whatever reason, turned their backs on Vista, and it’s these people that Microsoft needs to win back.

But it’s not going to be easy.

While Microsoft tried to convince people that Vista wasn’t really as bad as they thought it was by resorting to a web ad campaign that was thinly disguised as an “experiment”, those still using XP weren’t buying it. In fact it wasn’t until Microsoft’s “Laptop Hunter” ad campaign that the Redmond giant started seeing its ad dollars really having an effect. Problem for Microsoft is that these ads spend their time selling Windows-based PCs rather than Windows itself. It seems that Microsoft knows that selling Windows is an uphill struggle.

Another problem for Microsoft is that there’s no easy upgrade path for XP users wanting to move to Windows 7. While I usually hate doing in-place upgrades on an OS (that’s where you apply the OS over the top of the existing one and keep all your old settings and programs) because it leads to more problems than it solves, I know that there are a lot of people out there who like this method because it saves them a lot of time and effort. You can’t do this going from XP to 7. You can use Windows Easy Transfer to move your stuff (data, not apps), which is probably the safest method, but it’s a multi-step hassle that many won’t bother with.

As I see it there’s another obstacle in the way of XP users adopting 7, and that is the fact that if you peel away the Windows 7 veneer, what you end up with resembles Vista. A lot. Sure, it’s Vista SP2, and not the poor quality RTM code that Microsoft shoveled into user’s faces, but it’s still Vista. There may be fewer comparability roadblocks than there was for those who tried moving from XP to Vista, but users going from XP to Windows 7 are still going to stumble across roadblocks. XP Mode will help, but ultimately it’s a kludge. A kludge that’s only available to people who buy the most expensive versions of Windows 7.

It’ll be interesting to see how Microsoft tries to win over the entrenched XP user. Microsoft may decide to throw ad dollars at the problem. Alternatively, Microsoft might stick with the current “Laptop Hunter” style ads and rely on user’s PC growing obsolete over time.

IP address: What lies beneath?

IP address: What lies beneath?

IP address is the address of a device attached to an IP network, hence every client, server and network device is assigned an IP address, which can be shown by 32/64 bit numbers.
Author: Amarpreet97

Article Tools:

An Internet Protocol (IP) address is a numerical identification and logical address that is assigned to devices participating in a computer network utilizing the Internet Protocol for communication between its nodes.

The original designers defined an IP address as a 32-bit number, now named as Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4), and are still in use today. However, due to the enormous growth of the Internet and the resulting depletion of the address space, a new addressing system (IPv6), using 128 bits for the address, was developed in 1995 and last standardized by RFC 2460 in 1998.

Although IP addresses are stored as binary numbers, they are usually displayed in human-readable notations, for e.g., 208.77.188.166 (for IPv4) and 2001:db8:0:1234:0:567:1:1 (for IPv6). The role of the IP address has been characterized as follows: "A name indicates what we seek. An address indicates where it is. A route indicates how to get there." IP addresses are considered software addresses, and are not hard coded hardware addresses.

The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) manages the IP address space allocations globally. IANA works in cooperation with five Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) to allocate IP address blocks to Local Internet Registries (Internet service providers) and other entities.

IP addresses are categorized into two categories:
• Private Addresses: These are addresses that are used on the private network, and which are not visible on the Internet. They are often used with network address translators to connect to the global public Internet.
• Public Addresses: These are Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) registered addresses which are visible on the Internet.

IP version 6 addresses
The next generation of the Internet Protocol, aimed to replace IPv4 and to expand the Internet's addressing capability on the Internet, was eventually named Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6). The address size was increased from 32 to 128 bits or 16 octets, which, even with a generous assignment of network blocks, is deemed sufficient for the foreseeable future.

Static and dynamic IP addresses
When a computer is configured to use the same IP address each time it powers up, this is known as a Static IP address. In contrast, in situations when the computer's IP address is assigned automatically, it is known as a Dynamic IP address.

IP Address Assignment Methods
IP addressing can occur through either of the following methods:
• Dynamically assigning IP addresses through Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP): IP addresses that are assigned via a DHCP server are regarded as dynamically assigned IP addresses. The DHCP server assigns IP addresses from a predetermined IP address range(s).
• Manually assigning IP addresses: Manually assigning IP addresses can be time consuming, and can lead to duplicated IP address assignments. IP addressing normally occurs manually when there are no configured DHCP servers on the network and the network haves multiple network segments or a computer has a static IP addresses or the user configure computers on important network servers such as domain controllers, or DNS servers.
• Automatically assigning IP addresses through Automatic Private IP Addressing (APIPA): APIPA can be used as an alternative when no DHCP server exits to dynamically assign IP address. APIPA works well in smaller networks, when a computer is used on more than one network.

Special IP addresses:
A few IP addresses are reserved for specific special purposes. The reserved IP addresses are:
• Network segment of the address specified to zeros/0s: Indicates this network or subnet (local network).
• Network segment of the address specified to ones/1s: Indicates this network and all associated subnets.
• Network address 127: The address is reserved for loopback testing.
• Host address of all zeros/0s: The address is typically used in routing tables, and when referencing a network, but not particular hosts on the network.
• Host address of all ones/1s: This is used as a broadcast address for all the nodes on a particular network.

Simple way to protect your computer from Virus

Simple way to protect your computer from Virus

Protecting your computer from a virus is getting difficult and harder now a day. The Internet provided a conduit by which viruses could move from host to host with lightening speed.

No longer could a computer user just worry about floppy disks as points of entry, but they now had to worry about email, email attachments, peer-to-peer file sharing, instant messaging, and software downloads. Today's viruses can attack through multiple entry points, spread without human intervention, and take full advantage of vulnerabilities within a system or program. With technology advancing every day, and the convergence of computers with other mobile devices, the potential of new types of threats also increase.

Computer user should follow a few simple steps to protect against the threat of virus:

The threat of a new generation of viruses able to attack in a multitude of ways, the approach of having just one antivirus software version has become outdated. You need to be confident that you have protected all aspects of your computer system from the desktop to the network, and from the gateway to the server. Consider a more comprehensive security system which includes several features including antivirus, firewall, content filtering, and intrusion detection.

It is important that you regularly update your antivirus software to become familiar with the software's real-time scan feature and configure it to start automatically each time you boot your computer. This will protect your system by automatically checking your computer each time it is powered up.

Make it a habit to always scan all new programs or files no matter from where they originate. Perform regular backups in case your system is corrupted. It may be the only way to recover your data if infected.

There are numerous applications available to consumers. With a little research, you can pick the program that is right for you. Many programs provide a trial version which allows you to download the program and test its abilities. However, be aware that some anti-virus programs can be difficult to uninstall. As a precaution make sure to set up a System Restore point before installing.

But don't worry: chances are high that Office Password Recovery by Intelore.com will help you recover that password in an instant!

Office Password Recovery can recover many types of passwords in the blink of an eye. Microsoft Access passwords to open and user-level workgroup passwords, Excel workbook and spreadsheet protection, Outlook e-mail accounts, and shared protection passwords are always recovered in an instant regardless of their length and complexity. In addition, Office Password Recovery instantly removes formatting and editing restrictions, locked cell protection and permissions.

Office Password Recovery supports documents created by all products and all versions of the Microsoft Office family.

Security is a very important issue in modern organizations. They hire professional system administrators who in turn release policies on how long and complex employee's passwords must be, and set requirements on regularly changing those long and complex passwords. This almost inevitably leads to the yellow stickers on the employee's desks, with all the long and 'secure' passwords written down.

But what if that yellow sticker is lost?

With strong encryption and long and complex passwords, it can be virtually impossible to recover important data without special tools aimed at recovering passwords from the Microsoft Office documents. Microsoft officially denies providing the means even for system administrators to recover the documents that are rendered useless with the loss of a password.

Office Password Recovery will help recover these documents, even if strong encryption and long passwords were used.

And, what if you need that document right away, or at least as soon as possible? You might have tried another tool that offers to recover your Office passwords by enumerating all possible combinations of letters and numbers. This kind of password recovery is known as brute force. As you'll quickly see, it will not provide a result if a password longer than a few characters was used.

Office Password Recovery offers smarter ways to recover passwords than just brute force, allowing you to easily create just about any kind of attack. It will try different combinations of dictionary words, including misspellings and phonetic errors, depending on your language and keyboard layout. It will analyze frequency characteristics of the text and adjust its efforts to minimize the number of possible password combinations and reduce the time required to find the right password.

Office Password Recovery gives you complete control over how and what password combinations are tried. If you even remotely remember at least part of the password, maybe even the fact that it had a number at the end, or that it was a specific length, or that it had a capital in the beginning, Office Password recovery will make use of that information and will find your password much faster than it would otherwise.

Google “Caffeine” is the codename for the new page which is developed under the hood of the older one.

The new search engine is now available for public testing at www2.sandbox.google.com. Various analysts predict the new site as a major code update for Google's searches. If you punch the aforesaid link, you would not notice any difference in the look and feel of the site compared to the regular Google site, but the update is primarily under the cover.

But, at this point of time, it is too early to say something about the SEO interests, which is an art aimed at winning the desirable first page of Google results for keyword searches of interest to their client.

Testing the performance

Google has opened the test version of its new search platform to test developers and is open to assimilate the feedbacks. Google is however very keen to work on improved speed, better search results and faster indexing.

• Speed: By speed, Google means how fast a search display page loads on different web browsers and is heading to make it minimalistic.
• Accurate results: As of common notion, search results displayed by Google are generally relevant but with the new option coming, it is targeting to reduce the discrepancy to its possible low.
